Bicycle Safety, A Must Know For All Beach Cruiser Bicycle Riders

Many people are hunting for bicycle beach cruisers on sale because they want to exercise more and save gas money which is creeping back up to the record highs the country saw last summer.
There are many benefits, besides saving gas, to owning a beach cruiser bicycle. Beach cruiser bicycles can go places where cars cannot, especially in high traffic areas. A bicyclist can bypass heavily trafficked areas and be home or get to an appointment that much faster.
Exercise is a large motivator for people who are purchasing beach cruisers bicycles because riding a bicycle is a great cardiovascular workout for your heart in addition to helping clear one’s mind – studies have proven that exercise helps depression because when we exercise, chemicals in the brain called endorphins are released and these are the “happy” chemicals.
Of course one must always be on the lookout for safety hazards when riding a beach cruiser on the street or sidewalk. There are potholes, holes in the roadway and sidewalks, children’s toys, small animals, tree limbs and sticks and just about anything you can think of that might be in your way as you are riding down a street or sidewalk, even those designated ‘bicycle only’ pathways. A bicyclist must always be on the lookout for dangerous obstacles in their path.
A bike helmet is the number one safety equipment a bicyclist should always wear before stepping foot on the bicycle and beginning to ride. Bicycle helmets save lives because head injuries are the number one killer of bicyclists. If a bicycle is in a crash with a vehicle, the car always wins and the bicyclist will usually be thrown onto the pavement where they could injure their head and neck or back, sometimes so severely they could be paralyzed.
Bicycle safety is an important issue and should be taught at an early age and there should be no middle ground or room for negotiation on bicycle helmets and bicycle safety rules. Every man woman and child should know the bicycle safety rules of the road before they start to peddle away.
