hearing aid costMany people have been disappointed with their hearing aids and hearing aid technology up until a few years ago when the hearing aid companies began to realize that people with hearing impairments were not able to really hear in crowded areas.  The Widex hearing aid is sometimes referred to as’ high definition’ hearing because it automatically adjusts from noisy surroundings to quiet environments and reduces feed back when the person wearing it is speaking or chewing.

The Senso Diva from the Widex hearing aid company combines two microphones with digital signal processing to zero on the sound of speech while reducing the background noises.   This is very important to a hearing impaired person because background noise is their number one complaint when trying to hear someone speak; whereas a hearing person can block out background noise easily.

The Widex hearing aid company is based in Denmark and their latest hearing aid design had more to do with aesthetics than logistics.  Their goal was to place a computer that could handle 50 million computations per second into a tiny package and create a pliable casing so the machine could be molded to each individual’s ear. They studied information on hearing aids and decided that with the computer, the fit could not be snug.

Widex hearing aid company began designing their inner ear hearing aid approximately five years before the technology was available because the microprocessors at the time were still too large to place in a small hearing aid but they knew the technology would eventually catch up to what they were doing with the hearing aids.  And the hearing aid cost did eventually level off to a more reasonable price because they started out at between $4000 and $6,000.  Today these digital computer hearing aids are a fraction of that cost although still more than an analog hearing aid.

The results of the Widex hearing aid company’s hearing aid invention is a hearing aid that addresses most of the hearing impaired person’s problems such as reduction of wind noise, clarity of sounds and speech enhancement in noisy environments.
