The following year, the program included several more cities and countries around the world and an estimated 50 million people. This year the Earth Hour had over 4000 cities in 88 countries pledge their support for turning out their lights for one hour on this day to help bring awareness to the fact that in approximately five years there will be a major environmental change that needs to take place or else the earth will be in ‘big trouble.’ This is according to the WWF – World Wide Fund for Nature, the Earth Hour sponsor. 

During the Earth Hour, people took to the streets with a candle in hand and sang songs, held street fairs and some simply prayed for a better tomorrow.
